Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra – Healing Through Relaxation and Meditation
If you have ever practiced yoga, you are likely familiar with Savasana or corpse pose. This is a classical relaxation posture that is incorporated into every yoga class. Additionally, there is a deeper relaxation practice known as Yoga Nidra. Yoga Nidra literally translates as Yogic Sleep although we don’t actually sleep during the practice. In reality, it’s an expanded awareness while in a state of deep relaxation.
This extended relaxation and guided meditation practice is used for healing at the physical, emotional and spiritual levels.

Virtual Yoga Nidra – Monthly Workshops
The first Yoga Nidra Workshop of 2025 will be Sunday November 12, 2025 at 3:00pm MT
WHAT IS YOGA NIDRA?
Yoga Nidra is a guided meditation while in Savasana to deeply relax the body. It starts with a prolonged body scan, to release tension and holding in the body, followed by a guided visualization for healing of the heart, head and body.
Often affirmations are used to reinforce the healing. This is an effective and powerful practice that has been found to produce profound healing and stress reduction.
WHY SHOULD I DO YOGA NIDRA?
Yoga Nidra, especially in this new world we are living in, can help disperse the underlying anxiety and uncertainty of the times. It works very deeply to calm the nervous system and strengthen immunity. Some have reported that they have been able to release deep-rooted resentments and fears through this process. Additionally, this is an opportunity to escape the monotony of TV, Zoom Meetings, and Work at Home, and do some soothing self-care. Although we will be on Zoom, you can be completely passive and just follow along.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN THE WORKSHOP?
In this 90-100 minute workshop, we will begin with gentle stretching, and soothing pranayama to calm the nervous system, then move into the Yoga Nidra practice.
DO I NEED ANY SPECIAL EQUIPMENT?
You don’t need any special equipment – the practice can be done on the floor, in a chair, on the couch, or even on the bed! I recommend you have a blanket or two and a pillow for your head, and possibly another pillow under your legs to keep your back soft and comfortable. And of course, since we will be in the virtual space, you need a computer, tablet, or phone with a camera and microphone. (you can participate without a camera and microphone, but I won’t be able to see or hear you).
